Empowering our people to succeed with our third WeFly mentoring initiative

OctoberPeople & Culture

We are committed in our ambition to create a more supportive and inclusive workplace for all our people. In 2023, making good on that, we launched the third edition of our WeFly mentoring initiative in partnership with Valore D and Methodos.

This international, cross-company mentoring programme aims to equip talented managers with additional career support to boost their strengths, professional know-how and skills. It represents yet another element of UniCredit’s wider commitment to empower our people to progress, supporting their international aptitude and enriching participants’ management style.

Organised through mentor-mentee matches, the third edition of WeFly engaged 130 international participants from 42 companies – including 50 from UniCredit (25 Mentors and 25 Mentees) – supporting them to expand their professional network, familiarise with different cultures, strengthen their ambition to further achieve professional success and empower future generations of colleagues. For the first time, this year’s programme included men in the role of mentees to ensure fully inclusive gender representation.

Valore D is the first association of companies in Italy that, since 2009, has been committed to building a professional world without discrimination – and in which gender equality and the culture of inclusion support the innovation, progress and growth of organisations and of Italy. Methodos specialises in human cultural change initiatives.

We continue to invest in our people, empowering professional and personal growth while breaking down biases at all levels of our organisation. In this respect, mentorship represents a powerful tool for both mentors and mentees, exposing them to new perspectives and views, nurturing diversity of thought and ideas. The importance of mentoring as a people development tool and in particular of the WeFly programme is also confirmed by the outstanding results of its first two editions, which involved 110 UniCredit people."

In a constantly changing world that presents us with enormous global challenges, it is necessary to acquire international skills in order to learn the necessary skills to tackle them. The value of an international and cross-company mentoring experience like WeFly lies precisely in the opportunity for participants to relate to other realities, learning from different management styles, a fundamental step to build and develop a solid career path towards the leadership of tomorrow."
